1. Flintco Scholarship
Flintco, Inc. will award $25,000 in scholarship funds. This scholarship fund will be distributed to college bound Choctaw high school seniors. To qualify the student must be in a four or five-year construction management or construction science degree program, or a closely related field approved by Flintco.
2. Chief Pushmataha College Scholarship Fund
Brian Eaves will award $40,000 in scholarship funds to academically strong Choctaw college students with high potential. This scholarship fund is in memory of original enrollees Huddleston D. and Sebella "Seaby" Primus. This scholarship award will be matched dollar for dollar by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma to raise the total award to $80,000.
3. The O.J. and Mary Christine
Harvey Foundation Scholarship
The
O.J. And Mary Christine Harvey Foundation will
award a $5,000 scholarship to a sophomore or above with a
GPA of 2.7 or above per term. Student must show a financial
need. Student must attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University
or Northeastern State University.
4. The Sam Austin, Jr. Scholarship
The
Austin Family will award a scholarship of $4,000 for
a rising sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. This
scholarship is in memory of the late Sam Austin, Jr.
a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. This scholarship
award will be matched by The Choctaw Nation to raise
the total award to $8,000.
5. John C. Smith Scholarship
John C. Smith
will award one scholarship per year to a Choctaw Student
that is a Choctaw Honors Scholar. This is a $5000 scholarship
that can be renewed. Student must be able to demonstrate
involvement with or measurable interests in Native American
activities and high academic standards. This scholarship
award will be matched by The Choctaw Nation to raise the
total award to $10,000.
6. Oklahoma City University Choctaw
Student Award(undergraduate)
Oklahoma
City University will award one scholarship per year to
a Choctaw Student that is a Choctaw Honors Scholar. This
is a $12,500 scholarship that can be renewed if requirements
are met. Student must be able to demonstrate involvement
with or measurable interests in Native American activities
and high academic standards. This scholarship award will
be matched by The Choctaw Nation to raise the total award
to $25,000.
7. Phil and Cathy Busey - Oklahoma
City University Choctaw Student Scholarship
Phil and Cathy Busey and Oklahoma City University will
award one scholarship to a rising freshman. Mr. Busey is
an Oklahoma City attorney, OCU alum and a Native
American. This is a $15,000 scholarship that can be renewed
if requirements are met. Student must be able to demonstrate
involvement with or measurable interests in Native American
activities. An ACT score minimum of 25 and a high school
GPA of 3.5 is required. This scholarship award will
be matched by The Choctaw Nation to raise the total award
to $30,000.
8. Louie LeFlore/Grant Foreman Scholarship
The Louie LeFlore/Grant Foreman Scholarship is awarded to members of the Five Civilized Tribes who reside in the state of Oklahoma and within the jurisdictional boundaries of their tribes. The scholarship is restricted to students majoring in nursing (R.N./B.S.) pre-professional health or professional health area. The scholarship is given each year to a student who has excelled in the professional health areas. Applicants must provide a letter of acceptance into an accredited R.N./B.S. nursing program, a pre-health professions program or health professions school such as University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma state University-College of Osteopathic Medicine, Tulsa, or Southwestern State university College of Pharmacy, Northeastern State University School of Optometry.
9. The Eliphalet Nott Wright Scholarship
The Eliphalet Nott Wright (E.N. Wright) Scholarship was created by Westminster alum, John Sullivan to help Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma students obtain an excellent education at his alma mater, Westminster College in Fulton Missouri. Founded in 1851, Westminster College is a private, selective, coeducational, residential, undergraduate college with a curriculum based on the liberal arts with an emphasis on developmental experience. The College is dedicated to teaching excellence and an education centered on key values (integrity, fairness, respect, and responsibility) that prepare graduates to become leaders of character. The student enrollment is just under 950, and the student/faculty ratio is 14:1. Winston Churchill delivered his famous "Iron Curtain" speech at Westminster in 1946, and in recent years George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, and Lech Walesa have participated in the College's international lecture series. Prominent on campus are the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library and the monumental sculpture "Breakthrough," created from sections of the Berlin Wall. The current value of the E.N. Wright Scholarship is $45,000.
10. The Native American Political Leadership Program Scholarship
The 2009 Spring Semester of the George Washington University's Native American Political Leadership (NAPLP) Scholarship is accepting applications through November 1st, 2008. This scholarship is now in its fourth year and creates full scholarships for Native American students and recent graduates to participate in GWU's Semester In Washington Politics program. The NAPLP is the first political leadership development scholarship for Native students and is funded by the AT&T Foundation. The scholarship covers tuition for a six credit hour program, on-campus housing, all books, transportation to and from the program at the beginning and end of the semester, and a stipend. NAPLP expects to award 20 scholarships for its Spring, 2009 semester. Apply online at www.gwu.edu/~siw/politics/naplp.
